General Introduction

Yangzhou University (YZU) is one of the key comprehensive universities in Jiangsu Province, East China. As one of the largest universities in the most economically vigor ous area in China, YZU boasts advanced teaching and research facilities and has been striving to provide quality education to its students ever since 1902. In a recent Teaching Assessment of Undergraduate Education organized by the Ministry of Education, YZU was rated Excellence (the best level).

YZU consists of 26 schools which currently offer 101 undergraduate programs, 135 master’s programs and 34 doctoral programs. Altogether 8 adjacent campuses are located in downtown Yangzhou city (3 hours’ drive from Shanghai and 1 hour from Nanjing), housing 34,620 full-time undergraduates, 7,362 postgraduates, and 11,000 part-time students on continuing education programs. The number of faculty and staff members is now 3,760, of which 1,970 are professional teachers including 1,003 professors and associate professors.

English Taught Program

YZU provides English taught programs for students who want to pursue their study in their own language. Now there are a few programs including Medicine and Mechanical Engineering are taught in English and IMAEP (International Mechanical & Automotive Engineering Program) is an especially welcomed program.

IMAEP is a tuition-waived international exchange program offered by the Mechanical Engineering College of YZU. This program is intended to provide the participants with not only an academic overview of mechanical and automotive engineering theory and practice, but also a chance to learn about Chinese social and economic reaction to the development in the field of mechanical and automotive engineering. In addition to classroom lectures, the program also consists of seminars, internships and field trips to industries and companies in the triangle area of Yangtze River. Usually the academic calendar covers 16 weeks and students can apply for additional internship session which lasts 12 weeks.

International Students

YZU is among the first group of universities approved by the Ministry of Education to admit international students and students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. It is also one of the not many universities to accept students funded by Chinese Government Scholarship.

Now there are around 300 students from 30 countries studying in YZU and another 300 students come to visit YZU for short-term programs each year. The disciplines and subjects admit the most international students include Language, Agriculture, Medicine, Bio-science, Nutrition and Food Hygiene, and so on.

YZU also provides financial support for its international students. Currently around 50 students are enjoying scholarships of various kinds, including Chinese Government Scholarship, Confucius Institute Scholarship, Jasmine Jiangsu Provincial Scholarship, and Chinese Government Distinguished Foreign Self-Funded Student Scholarship, to name just a few.

YZU opens its door not only to the incoming foreign students, but also through the Confucius Institute established in Kennesaw State University in Georgia, USA and Queensland University of Technology, Australia.
